It refers to the statistical graph where a line is skewed to the right without ever reaching zero on the horizontal scale. Essentially, it's an infinite line. The horizontal, or x, axis represents keyword phrases. The vertical, or y axis, represents total searches.

In Anderson's book, he explains how the Internet is circumventing every aspect of consumer choice. Before the Internet, consumers didn't have much choice. We simply took what the media and retailers offered and gave up on our own "custom" desires. After I read the book, I thought about how the long tail applies to effective search engine rankings.

Read the article here: Using Long Tail Keyword Terms Effectively

Keyword Research - A Necessary but Worthy Evil

If you want to rank well in the search engines, then you absolutely must understand how to do market research and build your keyword lists. Why? Because keyword research determines your market's profitability and competition.

If you skip this stage, you could wind up doing a lot of work following dead ends. There are some markets that just are not worth pursuing. You don't want to end up chasing a market that isn't profitable.

You need to decide what the market is looking for and bring yourself to the market. Many small business owners do just the opposite. They come up with a product or service they think the market needs and then try to go after and convince the market of their product value. type='text'>Knowing what Search Engines Want

I read a lot of differing views about linking. One point that's been cropping up more often is external linking. The question being, should you link to other sites?

Yes, you should link to other sites. Is there a limit to how many sites you can link to? I don't know.

Here's my simple take on external linking. Are you doing it for the benefit of your visitors? Are you offering value?

It all gets back to your website's purpose. Yes, you have a website to expand your business. But, you also have a wonderful opportunity to dazzle your customers. Don't worry about giving stuff away. Don't worry about linking to something you think will benefit your customers.

The best SEO strategy is to stop worrying about SEO and start delivering content your customers and potential customers can use.

Every SEO firm is going to claim they know what the search engines want, including myself. It's business.

But, in reality, nobody knows 100%. We get glimpses here and there but nobody truly knows it all. And, what's right today may not be right tomorrow.

Yes, you should be deliberate about your SEO implementation, but not for the sake of SEO. It should be for the sake of your customers.

Is Link Building ever "Finished"?

I poke around on guru.com every few days to look at the different link building projects. There are a lot, no doubt.

A few days ago, I found one project that stuck out. The person/webmaster had a brand new site. They wanted it to be in the top 3 in Google (for 3 different keyword phrases) in ~ 90 days. I don't know how much they were willing to pay but that really wasn't the point.

My questions was, what do you do after the 90 days? Do you simply stop? I realize there's a viral aspect to linking. If you're popular, then people will link to you naturally.

Truthfully, I hardly ever run across projects that need ongoing link building. Budget is always an issue, of course. And, there's the waiting game. And, there's the prospect that it will all be for naught.

But, linking is the trump card right now. All else being equal, links rule. Or should I say, quality links rule.

Are Search Rankings really that Important?

Search rankings are important but they don't tell the whole story. I read an article recently (can't remember the source), which broke internet traffic down into categories. To my surprise, search traffic was a small portion (in the 10-15% range).

So, where does the other traffic come from? Direct type-ins was the top method. People search, find a site, then go back to the site directly. Search was the first touch and every other touch afterward was direct.

How does this impact SEO? First, top search engine rankings are only a piece of a bigger internet traffic pie. Yes, you can pay for traffic through PPC. But, why not establish yourself as an authority and leverage other sites' popularities?

How do you do this? By setting up a blog, or a squidoo page. By writing articles and submitting them to top article directories. By giving your buyers helpful and informative content through press releases, white papers, and ebooks.

People will start to take notice and visit your site. In the mean time, you'll be establishing the links you need to move up in the search engines.

If you give people information they can use, without blatantly advertising yourself, you'll get more respect.

How many email lists are you signed up for that actually send you useful information? Not many I would venture to guess. But, you're probably offered all sorts of special offers and "one day only" deals.

I'm on a list where the owner sends me at least one, sometimes two, videos every week. As people write and ask him questions, he answers the questions by posting a video explaining the answer.

Let me tell ya', this is useful content. He explains what he's talking about using charts, different web pages, and straight, step-by-step guidance. I'm willing to bet he gets a ton of referral traffic because of those videos.

I bought a forex trading system from him, which is why I'm on his list. What's amazing is that I no longer trade. But, I'm still on his list. Why? Because it's great content! I'm still learning from it.

He posts the videos to a public page so I know he gets a large set of backlinks. All because he's giving away extremely useful content.

Use his example to make your customers raving fans.

Somethin' For Nothin'

I've had three people approach me this week. Here's what they asked:

1. Can you do $1,500 of work for me for free?
2. Can you give me a 40% discount forever?
3. Will you buy the .net of your domain for $2,000?

Maybe the hurricanes are rooting out the cockroaches, I'm not sure. So, what's the point of this post?

To tell you that you're always going to run into people that want something for nothing. You've been to a few conferences. But you still haven't started anything.

It's easy to get excited when you've been hyped. In the heat of the excitement, anybody can justify a $47, $97, $127, or $997 purchase.

But what now? Buyer's remorse has set in. You have to skip lunch for a month to pay off your credit card.

I don't care what you've bought or how big a hole you think you've thrown yourself into. Here's what you do:

1. Choose an idea that gets you excited. Go to http://www.1and1.com/. Buy a domain and hosting. Shouldn't be more than $20 upfront and no more than $15 on a monthly basis.

2. Create a topic resource directory. If your topic is motorcycles, find absolutely every resource on the net about motorcycles.

3. Group and compile all your resources into a single PDF. The more pages the better. Name your resource "The Mega 'Your Topic' Resource".

4. Create a 1 page website. Write a sales letter describing everything that's in your resource. Give it to a few friends. Have them write testimonials. Put the testimonials on your website.

5. Signup for a PayPal business account. Configure the "auto-return" feature. It's easy. Don't make it any harder.

5. Now write. Write 250, 300-400 word articles. That's right, 250 articles! Of course, they should have something to do with your topic. Give your information away.

6. Submit your articles to at least a dozen article directories. Include a resource box on each article that leads readers back to your site.

7. Compile your articles into a second PDF. Offer it as a bonus to those who purchase your product.

8. Rinse and repeat.

I can GUARANTEE you will have buyers. Best of all, you didn't have to pay money for your marketing.

You'll have the confidence and determination to do it again. And again. And again.

Natural Linking Profile

Here's the bottom line—search engines are fighting spammers. If you're engaging readers with content and grunting it out getting links, then you shouldn't worry. Where you get in trouble is when you start believing that faster + cheaper = better.

You can build 1,000 websites in a day with software. You can blast your links to 1,000 other sites. Is this natural? Can one person possibly do all this work in a day, or even a week?

That's what I mean by "natural linking profile". When you launch a website, you've set the baseline. Every time you add content or a link, the search engines note it. That's why Google places so much emphasis on older websites. They've created a history of trust.

How do you get someone to trust you? By performing trustworthy actions over a long period of time. That's how search engines learn to trust you. You have to maintain a trutworthy profile for years.

Back to the example. How can a search engine trust 1,000 sites (usually all with the same IP address) pounded out in a day? It can't. It won't. It's spam. And search engines don't like spam.

Forums can be Dangerous to your Health

Why? Because they sometimes resemble cocktail parties. Everyone puts on their best appearance waiting for the moment when they can show off. Or, better yet, waiting for a moment when someone else makes a mistake then pouncing like a starving coyote.

I once had a friend email me in a frantic because he was following a forum that was in the throes of a Google update discussion. He assumed his poor search engine results were a direct coorelation to what was happening at Google.

Turns out the thread was two years old. He nearly died of a heart attack over something that happened over two years ago. What's funny is that he jumped right back in, like a drunk sailor diving into a shark feeding frenzy.

I don't know why, but when I visit a forum (rarely), I feel like everyone is standing in a large gym, lined up along the edges, screaming at each other.

When I first starting building my "Adsense Empire", I did the same thing. Always doubting myself because everything I read contradicted everything else I read.

Then one day I stopped. I jumped off the forum bandwagon. I can handle a few different opinions. I really should have checked the water level before I made the leap. Oh well, it's easier to warn others than to whine about lost opportunites.

1. If it's free, automated, "push button", or too easy, it's usually cr*p.
I'm a sucker for long sales pages; still am. I'm too easily overhyped. That means I bought software and ebooks and reports and anything else that promised to take away all my worries and get me into a lounge chair as soon as possible. What I didn't realize is that I probably took more time to read through and learn all that garbage than if I had just learned how to do it the right way in the first place. It's cliche but true, persitence and consistency pay off in the long run.

2. It can get lonely at the top. And make you "broker" at the same time.
We SEO types are posessed by top search engine rankings. In the race to get a #1 position, we lose sight of the ultimate goal...conversions. I would rather have a 10% conversion on 150 visitors than a 1% conversion on 1,000 visitors. But, alas, my ego is fragile. I crave high positions and visitor counts. A hard temptation to fight indeed.

3. "Meta Tags" --> Spanish for "don't waste your time"
Here's how the dialogue begins, usually in a forum: "I can't get any search engine traffic. Will someone please look at my website and offer any suggestions?"

Professional forum groupie: "You don't have any meta tags! You need to include meta tags on your pages. You'll NEVER get ranked if you don't have meta tags". This is certainly something I would have expected to see in 1999, not in 2007. But I do. All the time. A large number of people have sad or scary stories about the dentist. It just takes one bad dentist to start a person on a self destructive path of avoidance and tooth decay. Many of the dentally fearful ask the same question. What is the easiest and best way to choose a dentist? Following a simple process of selection is best. Making the decision structure simple is the key to get ting back in the dentists’ chair and getting back on the road to a healthy and pain free smile. Using the following criteria while making dentistry choices will simplify your decisions.

A recommendation from your existing dentist, a friend, or family member can be useful.

You might ask your current dentist if he knows of any good dentists. Often, dentists maintain personal and professional relationships with other dentists around the country, and your dentist might be able to recommend a good dentist he knows of. Also friends and family members can provide very good insight into skills, office esthetics, and professional treatment. They can also help you to become more comfortable about the pain levels and sensitivity to certain environmental factors. Another good thing about a recommendation from friends or family is that you can assess the general cost structure before sitting in the chair.

What should you look for in a new dentist?

You can ask friends and neighbors for their recommendations. You should also look for a dentist who has a friendly staff that is easy to communicate with. Your dentist should be able to handle your particular dental history, but should also offer preventative dentistry, and do periodic examinations of your teeth and gums, along with at least yearly x-rays. They should encourage periodic appointments for routine teeth cleaning. The environment should be clean and stress free. The staff should always be friendly and receptive to your needs. If the staff or the dentist thinks you are being a baby when you tell them of your fears or apprehensions then simply leave and find another dentist.

Watch out for these warning signs.

Keep an eye out for flashy advertising, dentists who advocate cosmetic dentistry above preventative dentistry, and twilight sleep as the ideal technique of surgery. Also watch out for dentists that seem worried with diagnosing other illnesses besides those associated with teeth and gums. Dentists who practice holistic dentistry or those who depend on vitamin sales to boost their income are very bad and can actually set your dental health back. Be careful of a dentist that does not listen. If your dentist prefers extraction over saving a tooth then you might have a problem. Also, if you have a dentist who is offended if you get a second opinion then cut and run.

You should get acquainted first

Most dentists will happily schedule a consultation visit so you can meet the dentist and their staff, and decide then if this is the right dentist for your teeth and personal needs. If a dentist is not willing to schedule a visit like this, they probably are not the dentist for you. It is not very difficult to select a new dentist. You just need to understand what you looking for and not be afraid to ask some questions. If you understand some of the things to look for in a new dental practice, then your selection should be fairly easy. There are plenty of health related reasons to go to the dentist. You can make all of them available to you to use when you choose to follow a strict regimen of dentistry. You should go out and find a new dentist quickly and easily to preserve your beautiful smile.

Find out more about qulaity dentistry by visiting http://www.pueblowestdentalcare.com

SEO Solutions and one way link publicity services provided by http://www.LinkAcquire.com

David C Skul - CEO LinkAcquire.com and Relativity, Inc. can provide global market exposure and solutions at http://www.relativitycorp.com

Spain a Contender in World Cup 2006

This Friday December 9, 2005 saw football lovers round the world clinging to the edge of their seats, ready and waiting to determine who they would play in the group stages of the World Cup 2006 in Germany. The ceremonial occasion contained all the anticipated fanfare and hoopla that a soccer fan would normally link with modern sporting events. In other words, the smitten sports buff was subjected to hours of mindless slobber when awaiting for the unparalleled action to start out. Whosoever puts these events together just can't perchance believe that the football fans who have tuned in to see such an event can be in any way smitten in the flaky magic exhibits and dance troops they force out. One can only believe that heavy numbers of hard cash in brown envelopes that changes hands in order to generate some feeble performers their luck to be on worldwide television. The experience was produced slenderly supplementary endurable with a handsome blonde in a revealing dress co-hosting the program.

When the standoff did at last came it was dragged out, with a horde of footballing celebrities taking balls to pick out the teams. Again, a soccer fan has to accept that the presenters and celebrities were being paid off by the second as they struggled to make this non-event into a television spectacular. This should have taken no further than fifteen minutes to carry through, but no, soccer reporting went on for a undivided three hours! Because this is an indication of affairs to hail it is no question that the tourney will take an entire calendar month to finish.

When the dust settled on the over padded proceedings in Leipzig, England came out of it rather well. Notwithstanding having traditional rivals for Sven's loyalty, Sweden, in the group, Paraguay and Trinidad & Tobago are surely there just to make things fair. With the top two from every group coming along to the second round, England are favorites to proceed into this phase with out too much trouble. Depending on the setting in both England’s group (B) and the Germany / Poland group (A) the substitutions perchance set up an early crunch match with the hosts. Even so this would bank on either Germany or England neglecting to win their various groups and an England vs. Poland second round match is tremendously additional probable. Providing this potential banana skin can be negotiated, the usual is that England will crash out on penalties in the quarter finals to either Holland or Argentina. All England buffs, notwithstanding the optimism that usually rings the ballyhoo to a world cup, hold a sensation of the inevitable heroical defeat in the latter stages of the tourney. The common comments have been made up by the various directors, with Sven contributing in his normal unrestrained flair.

Perhaps the most intriguing groups are C, where Holland and Argentina are drawn jointly, and E, where Italy takes on USA, Czech Republic and Ghana. Normally ho-hum starters to tourneys, and having broke down to go on from the group stages last time around, Italy stand a tough task onwards. Having been drawn with the very much improving USA and a Czech side who are beginning to indicate signals of the retuning glory days with an mythical performance in the last Euro Championships, Italy may be the competitors first large casualty, with Ghana being very tremendously an unsung entity. Group C caters to an early clash of the prominent boys, where the Dutch face are good deal better than their ungraded position suggests, but both Holland and Argentina need be firm enough to overcome Ivory Coast and Serbia & Montenegro to win to the second round. The only question in truth is of who may top the group and in theory cast the easier second round match.

Historically it has been very rocky for a South American squad to win a world cup in Europe and at first site Brazils ranking as clear front-runners might seem a little generous. Notwithstanding, the game is not the equal as it has been in the yesteryear and several of the Brazilian team already frolic in top European sides in England, Spain and Italy. Their adaptation has been years in the forming and the European manner of soccer fused with the traditional Brazilian genius and talent may be mouthwatering to observe. It might take a very expert face to take away their pennant from them and in Ronaldhino they have a player who can bend any play off on his own.

Perhaps the most fun facet of any world cup is catching the dark horses, those minnows from commonwealths not affiliated with footballing grandness, progress and bowl over some of the brighter lights. This time around, there are reasonable aspersions of African commonwealths in the blend and some surprises could come from there. It may be worth looking out for the likes of Ivory Coast and Ghana when determining where to set that venturesome high odds wager at the loan shark. South Korea, Maybe the surprise bundle of the previous world cup in Japan are unlikely to be capable to replicate their heroics and will not be undervalued a second instance

SEO Solutions and one way link publicity services provided by LinkAcquire.

David C Skul - CEO LinkAcquire.com and Relativity, Inc. can provide global market exposure and solutions.

Inventing Something get a Patent

There is one kind of home business that is very different than any other: that of the inventor. If you’ve invented something, the chances are that you don’t have the resources to mass-produce the product yourself. You will need to send the plans and designs off to someone else to make in their factory. When you do this, though, how can you protect you idea against theft by them, or any one else who might see it? The answer is patent registration, which will give you the exclusive right to profit from it.

A patent gives you the exclusive right to profit from an invention for a set number of years. If anyone else tries to sell something that is covered by your patent, you’ll have the legal right to make them either pay you a license fee or stop. Each patent has a number. (You’ve probably seen this on any number of products. Patent pending means that a patent has been applied for but not yet granted.) Your invention must qualify before you get a patent. Not all inventions can be covered by patents. Check that your invention meets the following criteria.

Is it new and secret? You can’t have showed your invention publicly before you apply for a patent. Whatever you do, don’t take your invention around and demonstrate it before you think about patents. Is it non-obvious? Your invention must not be something that would be obvious to experience in your chosen industry. You cannot apply for a patent for a scientific or mathematical theory, or method; a work of art (books, plays, etc.-computer programs are included), a way of doing things or business method. Many of these are, instead covered by copyright. Patents are intended for actual physical inventions.

You need to apply at the agency called a patent office in your country. There are also patent agencies for larger areas, such as the European Patent Office or ultimately the World Intellectual Property Organization. It’s best to get a lawyer to guide you through this and make them sign a non-disclosure agreement. Depending on your country, applying for a patent can either be absurdly cheap or really expensive. You should note that if your patent application is refused at any stage, you won’t be getting your fees back. You can usually apply again, if you want to pay again.

If you have looked at the prices, you might be wondering: what’s the worst thing that could possible happen to me if I didn’t get a patent? The only answer to this is that anyone, to whom you happen to explain your idea or product, can steal it, and you won’t be able to do a thing about it. What’s more, once your invention does come on the market, success will attract many imitators. They’ll probably be able to produce your invention cheaper by sacrificing quality. A patent gives you protection in the marketplace for your home business against competitors.

SEO Solutions and one way link publicity services provided by LinkAcquire.

David C Skul - CEO LinkAcquire.com and Relativity, Inc. can provide global market exposure and solutions.

Do you want Better Search Results? Read Art of the Content Site by Nathan Anderson

After reading the newest ebook published by Nathan Anderson, I was floored at how it easy it was to generate great search engine results without paying a guru an outrageous sum of money to do so. The search engines are accessible to everyone because of this new look at search engine optimization. Nathan Anderson takes the time to write down to earth explanations that any beginner can grasp and apply immediately. His writing style makes the technical jargon used by many technology nerds palatable to the amateur user.

Nathan clearly defines what a content site is and how it works. He also goes into detail about the components that make up a content site. I especially enjoyed this quote from the books opening letter. ?Many SEOs are quite proud of their content creation abilities, claiming it to be an ?art?. They call it ?SEO Copywriting? in order to make themselves feel more important than they are... when in fact, any monkey that knows English can perform nearly on-par with these ?experts.?

This comment says a lot about Anderson and the kind of person he is. The sheer simplicity of the seven clearly outlined components of a content site is indeed the work of monkeys. Thanks to Nathan?s lack of egotism and his new ebook we can all share in better search results. Nathan holds nothing back as he goes into on-page and off-page optimization factors. Anderson reveals twelve points that any SEO would charge thousands of dollars to reveal.

Just when you thought that the book was worth every minute spent signing up to his exclusive opt-in list, Nathan goes on to reveal the seven components of a content site as in a very well defined and easy to understand writing method. This portion of his new ebook clearly explains that the following seven components are general characteristics of a content site.

1. Houses primarily HTML Text
2. Includes elements of interaction
3. May include multiple media types
4. Grows over time
5. Is tightly themed (niched)
6. Takes advantage of personal passions
7. Community = Success

Anderson goes on to explain every characteristic in great detail to ensures that the reader knows exactly how to compile, combine, and complete a site that embodies ?the art? of a true content site. The simplicity of every single component is emphasized with examples and clear explanations.

Nathan goes as far as to give a list of resources and tools that is unmatched anywhere on the net. He goes into the programs and tools he uses personally to construct his own content sites. It was a true pleasure to read this ebook and use the tips and techniques Nathan has given to the world. The ebook is free at artofthecontentsite.com. It also provides a status report on the continuing investigation, including progress and a description of the work not yet done. The report details the history of the price spikes of reformulated gasoline (RFG) in the Midwestern part of the country and how these increases caused Commission staff to initiate a preliminary investigation in June and prompted the Commission to begin a formal investigation during the latter part of July.

The report analyzes many conditions reported as potential causes of the gas price spikes - ranging from higher than normal crude oil prices, to the expectation of compliance with EPA Phase II regulations for summer-blend reformulated gasoline in high-ozone urban areas, to the damage to the critically important Explorer pipeline during March. However, the report says that "although it is likely that each of these supply factors contributed to the dramatic recent price spikes in the Midwest, no single factor appears from staff's preliminary investigation to be likely to provide a full explanation, and staff does not yet have sufficient information to assess the impact of these factors in combination."

In accordance with the report, Commission staff is investigating "the possibility of collusion or tacit coordination, conduct that could be illegal under Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act." Due to the abundance of potential interwoven causes as well as the monstrous amount of evidential information being collected for the course of the investigation, the report also states that "this investigation is likely to consume, at a minimum, another three or four months."

The report shows that on June 29, Commission staff issued the first round of subpoenas to the nine refiners that currently supply the Midwestern markets and that within the month, staff has accepted and logged approximately 200 boxes of documentation. Around mid August, most documents requested from the first round of subpoenas will be delivered to the Commission offices.
The Commission also issued a second round of subpoenas to other refiners last week, and has issued Civil Investigative Demands (CIDs) to the refiners recently, requesting that the refiners compile data and answers to all of the Commissions written questions. Commission staff issued another set of subpoenas on July 25 to the entities that own or control the gas transportation pipelines serving the Midwest markets of the United States. Documents from that set of subpoenas are expected to begin arriving shortly at Commission offices.

The report further details the Commission’s plan to conduct a series of in depth interviews as part of the investigation. Staff has already conducted nearly 15 interviews with market participants, consumers, corporate consumers and many others with knowledge of investigation relevant information, and continues the process of capturing pertinent industry-wide data from the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS). After the documentary evidence has been reviewed and analyzed, staff will take depositions under oath of key participating personnel throughout the gasoline distribution chain in the Midwest United States.

Federal Trade Commission staff will also coordinate all of the investigative efforts with the Attorney General of Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Kentucky, South Dakota, Indiana, Missouri, and West Virginia.

This article and one-way link advertisement provided by LinkAcquire.com

David C Skul - CEO LinkAcquire.com and Relativity, Inc. is pleased to serve his clients through traffic generating articles and one way links

This is my blog and ping page

Great links great content check them out
